Trivia Question❓

In 1536, which famous Tudor queen was held prisoner in Peterborough Abbey for 14 days before being taken to the Tower of London?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

We can't all be at the Albert Hall to Celebrate VE day on the 8th of May but I am sure many of the men, women and children of Peterborough will be looking forward to street parties and remembering our Veterans.

It's thanks to the sacrifice they made all those years ago that today we can enjoy the freedoms we do. We only have to look today at how some countries are unable to live safely today.

Let us know about your street party to celebrate VE day.

πŸ’¬ Hello this week from the Spotlight Team!

Spring’s sprung (finally), and Peterborough is buzzing with Bank Holiday energy.

Whether you're brunching in the sunshine, hoping that Posh can take inspiration from the Wembely win, or plotting a boot sale treasure hunt, there's something happening in nearly every corner of the city this week.

In this issue: a business that’s been a hidden gem for 30 years, a charity bringing warmth to rough sleepers, and some very colourful bricks…

Ready...

Let’s get stuck in, shall we?

πŸ•ŠοΈ Community Spotlight: Light Project Peterborough

When the nights get cold in PE1, Light Project Peterborough is quietly getting to work. This local charity has supported more than 1,000 people experiencing homelessness since 2015 β€” with a mix of emergency shelter, housing support, and practical help.

This spring, they’re ramping up support through The Garden House, a drop-in centre near the Cathedral offering everything from hot drinks to housing referrals.

🧑 β€œIt’s not just about giving people a bed β€” it’s about giving them back their future,” says CEO Steven Pettican.

Want to get involved? They’re always after volunteers and cuppa-makers.

Local Business Spotlight: The Willow Café – A Central Park Classic

Tucked into the leafy heart of Central Park, The Willow CafΓ© is more than a place for a great flat white β€” it’s a Peterborough institution.

Run independently for nearly 30 years, The Willow is a real β€œlittle gal” success story. It’s owned by Christine Corrigan, who built the cafΓ© from scratch with a warm welcome, homemade cakes, and a menu that caters to all β€” think vegan, veggie, gluten-free and more, without any fuss.

Behind the counter, you’ll find a loyal team (shoutout to Andy and Will her management team) serving up Illy coffee, fresh cakes & bakes, and that sunny-window-seat energy. And just in case you didn't know tucked around back is a full function suite for weddings, conferences, and birthday brunches with your nanna.

πŸ’¬ β€œWe’re proud to be independent, and even prouder to be part of Central Park’s everyday life,” says Christine.

πŸ“ Open 7 days a week β€” and a must-visit after a walk, game of tennis, or morning playdate.
