Keeping children entertained through August has a special ability to make a £20 note disappear before you’ve even located the sun cream.

So here are two Peterborough dates worth putting in the calendar.

Peterborough Family Hubs is running its Summer of Free Family Fun 2026, and the council says the events are completely free with no booking required.

First up is Circus Fun at Woodfield Park, Charteris Centre, PE1 4XE, on Thursday 20 August.

There are sessions from 10am–12pm and 1pm–3pm, with the afternoon session specifically for SEND families.

The programme includes circus performers and the chance for families to try circus skills themselves.

Then there’s the Family Festival on Thursday 27 August, running from 10am–2pm at the Athletics Track, PE1 5BW.

That one is billed as an end-of-summer day of games, activities, food and music.

Neither requires you to spend half an evening creating another account, remembering another password and discovering at checkout that the “free” activity has a £4.95 booking fee.

You just turn up.
