Fifteen quid is an awkward amount of money for a meal. It probably just too much to feel like a cheap lunch.But not enough to stop you staring suspiciously at a menu once somebody suggests starters.

So we went looking at what £15-ish actually buys around

Peterborough this summer.

And there are still some decent options.

At The Brewery Tap on Westgate, the lunchtime menu currently includes a Thai beef burger with Thai fries for £9.80, chicken satay ciabatta at £10.60, green curry chicken with rice, noodles or Thai fries for £11.60, and Massaman beef curry for £12.50.

Over at Lakeside Kitchen & Bar at Ferry Meadows, sausage and mash is listed at £10.95, katsu chicken curry at £12.95, while a panini with crisps and pickle salad is £8.50.

Then there is The Bombay Brasserie on Broadway, where the Monday-to-Saturday two-course set lunch is currently £14.95.

So the £15 lunch is not dead.

But there is a catch.

Value is not just the cheapest thing on the menu.

A £9.80 lunch you would happily order again beats a £7 meal you regret before reaching the car.

Location matters too.

The Brewery Tap works if you are in town.

Lakeside gives you lunch plus Ferry Meadows.

Broadway gives you a proper sit-down restaurant meal for just under the line.

This is exactly the sort of Peterborough test we should keep doing.

Not “Top 10 restaurants” scraped from somewhere else.

Actual dish. Actual price. Actual place.

And preferably something a reader could order this week.
