Nene Park’s current programme has several things running across the final week of August.

The Summer Holiday Adventure Trail continues until 31 August. The Big Jump Adventure Park is at Ferry Meadows until 1 September. Foodie Fridays runs on Friday 28 August from 3pm to 8pm with street food, drinks and live music.

Then the weekend adds more.

Longthorpe Tower has tours on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August. There is free Tai Chi at Ferry Meadows on Saturday morning and free Rise & Shine Yoga on Sunday morning.

Nene Outdoors also has an adult RYA Level 2 sailing course running across 29–30 August.

That does not mean everything is free, and anything ticketed should be checked before travelling.

There is another current detail worth knowing: Nene Park is warning of a high fire risk and says barbecues and fires are not allowed anywhere in the Park until further notice.

So if your Bank Holiday masterplan involved disposable barbecue smoke drifting across Ferry Meadows, revise it.

The bigger point is that “go to Ferry Meadows” can mean several completely different days depending on who is going with you.

Which version wins: walk and coffee, family activities, food event, watersports or finding a bench and doing absolutely nothing?
