The final stretch of the school holidays is the bit where cheap ideas become noticeably harder to find.

Peterborough Family Hubs has an interesting option that should appeal to many familes.

Its Family Festival takes place on Thursday 27 August from 10am to 2pm at the Athletics Track, PE1 5BW.

The council describes it as a day of games, activities, food and music to round off its Summer of Free Family Fun programme.

The important number is £0. That right 100% FREE

There is no booking requirement families can turn up on the day.

The wider summer programme has included ice skating, circus activities, outdoor cinema, wildlife activities and sessions at Ferry Meadows, so this is effectively the closing event.

If you are planning to go, the sensible approach with any free family event is to arrive earlier rather than assume “we’ll wander down after lunch” will work perfectly.

And if your children have reached that stage of the holiday where every suggestion gets the response “boring,” you can at least say you tried.

This is also a useful reminder that Peterborough has more free family activity than people sometimes realise  it is just scattered across council pages, Family Hubs, parks, libraries and venues.

We should probably make that easier so for the next year give us the events you have found for kids and we will put them in monthly report so you can be ahead of the game.

What free or cheap Peterborough activity saved your summer holidays this year?
